“Cash For Carolina Clunkers” Relaunched To Help Boost The Local Economy
North Carolina — July 1, 2020 — Details about the relaunch of North Carolina’s “Cash for Carolina Clunkers” payout program have been announced, following up on the car-buying frenzy of the successful government-sponsored program from a decade ago.
Under the NEW “Cash for Carolina Clunkers” or “Carolina Clunkers” (program, consumers will get paid as much as $4,500 more than the appraised value of their current vehicle to put towards any nicer, newer vehicle from a participating car dealer when they trade in their old vehicle and purchase a nicer, newer qualifying vehicle.
In order to be eligible for the program, the trade-in passenger vehicle must be in drivable condition and be continuously insured and registered to the same owner for the full year before the trade-in. Transactions must be made between July 1, 2020 and July 30, 2020. This is a limited time sale promotion.
FUNDING FOR THE PROGRAM:
The CASH FOR CAROLINA CLUNKERS or CAROLINA CLUNKERS program is a privately funded program that helps consumers buy a nicer, newer vehicle from a participating dealer when they trade in a “clunker” car, truck, van or SUV. The program is designed to energize the economy, boost auto sales and put safer vehicles on North Carolina roadways. No local, state or federal tax dollars are being used to fund this program.
ELIGIBILITY:
Any drivable vehicle is eligible regardless of the age, mileage or condition. Both domestic and imported vehicles are eligible for the program.
HOW IT WORKS:
Consumers bring their vehicle(s) to the dealership. Consumers will get paid up to $4,500 more than the appraised value of their current vehicle to put towards any nicer, newer vehicle from a participating car dealer when they trade in their old vehicle and purchase a nicer, newer qualifying vehicle if all program requirements are met.
The dealers are not reimbursed by any other government program or taxpayer-supported program. The vehicles traded in under the Cash For Carolina Clunkers program will be disposed of at the selling dealer’s discretion.
